500 MRCI announces the John Crosslé Chicane at Kirkistown circuit

The Saturday 30 May race meeting at Kirkistown promises to be a highlight of the 2015 season, blending Ireland’s top racers with a ‘blast from the past’ grid of 500cc Formula 3 visitors, the spectacular little cars from which the 500 MRCI takes its name.

Against this historic backdrop the Club will honour one of its most distinguished members. As well as establishing the famous company that bears his name, Dr John Crosslé MBE was an active and long-time supporter of the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland.

Following John’s passing at the age of 83 in August 2014, the Club has decided to name the John Crosslé Chicane at Kirkistown in his memory. A simple ceremony to this effect will be held, with members and friends of the Crosslé family, at the 30 May event. All are welcome to take part, at 1pm in the Clubhouse.

To mark the occasion a Crosslé Handicap Race will combine single-seater and sports racing cars from the Holywood marque in a showpiece spanning seven decades. Visitors from near and far, with some rarely-seen cars, should create an exceptional spectacle. Races for Formula Ford 1600, Roadsports and BOSS Ireland, plus the fabulous Fiestas, add up to a busy programme of on-track action. Static and off-road displays on the circuit infield, along with stylish new catering, add to what should be a special day at Kirkistown for the whole family.

With open practice on Friday 29, racing gets underway on Saturday 30 May from 13:30.
